Little Mouse’s Big Book of Beasts (written and illustrated
by Emily Gravett, published by Macmillan) is all about a mouse and how scared he is of large creatures
such as lions and crocodiles. However, the
little mouse has annotated the book with lots of ideas on how to make these
beasts a little less scary.For
instance, he has removed the “ROAR” from the lion and covered his sharp claws
with pretty mittens!
Each double page features a different animal, along with
Mouse’s suggestions for making them seem less scary. There are also lots of interactive features,
such as lifting up flaps to find hidden notes and pictures, and even
instructions on how to make origami sharks and mice.
The Pickle loves flicking through the pages by himself or
reading with one of us and this has quickly become one of his favourite
books. There is so much going on on each
page that he seems to find something new each time we read it.This is the first book we’ve read by Emily
Gravett but it definitely won’t be the last!
We were sent a free copy of the book for the purpose of this review.
