The Princess has been very busy in the kitchen this weekend, baking some
lovely treats, using the Make and Do Bake recipe book from Priddy
Books.
The book contains 20 recipes from Kathleen King, owner of Tate's Bake Shop in New York. There are cakes, cookies, muffins and more, along with tips on chopping, whisking, rolling pastry and sifting flour. Each recipe shows the preparation time and the level of difficulty at the top of the page.
The Princess chose a recipe she wanted to make (Dot's Lemon Squares) and she was able to read and understand most of the instructions by herself. The book folds out into an easel so it can be placed on the worktop and the spiral bound pages are glossy card, rather than the usual flimsy paper in 'grown up' recipe books! It is ideal for (messy) children as the pages can easily be wiped clean afterwards.
She did a very good job of the lemon squares with minimal help (although we used a round cake tin so ours were actually triangles), the only problem is they didn't seem to last for very long before they were all gone......
We also had a go at making the Blueberry Crisp together, but we also added in some apples and served with custard.... Yum!
I think this will be a very useful book and I can see us using it quite often - The Princess has already chosen two recipes for next weekend! It is priced at £9.99 from www.priddybooks.com and Priddy Books have also kindly donated a copy to give away in the Pudsey's Adventures competition.
