On the last day of the Easter holidays we enjoyed a fun filled day out at Woburn Safari Park. This was our third visit to the park and each time has been even better with new things we've discovered. The weather was a bit miserable but not too cold, so we decided to make the most of it and do as much as we could fit into our day!
We learnt all about the Asian Elephants in Elephant Meadow, watched how their health checks are done and even got to stroke one! Later, from our swan boat ride we were lucky enough to spot them casually strolling past the picnic area back to their enclosure.
We also saw the Birds of Prey demonstration, with Barney the Barn Owl (who was being a bit naughty and went for a longer flight than he was meant to), an Eagle Owl, two Harris Hawks and Diego the Seriema who demonstrated how he would catch and kill a snake!
We managed to catch a few of the feeding times around the foot safari, including the lemurs and the Wallabies (most with babies in their pouches). The Pickle made sure they all knew by calling "Come on, it's lunch time!" The Sealions were busy splashing and it was great to see the new Desert Springs - home of the Meerkats, Yellow Mongoose and Porcupines.
Another attraction we hadn't noticed before was Rainbow Landing, a free flying aviary of Lories and Lorikeets, where you are able to purchase a pot of nectar to encourage the birds over to you. Not that they needed much encouragement - we all ended up with them landing on our heads at some point!
There are plenty of places for the little ones to play, including a tiny tots bouncy castle for under 5's, outdoor play areas and the Mammoth Play Ark - something we haven't had chance to look at yet as there are so many other things to keep us occupied! We also caught the train to the Deer Stop and it was really nice to see the train was free as so many places charge extra for this.
We did one more loop of the road safari before heading home and it seemed all the animals had woken up and were getting into mischief! The bears were very playful, climbing trees, play fighting and rolling around looking as if they wanted their tummies tickling!
The monkeys were adorable, even when chewing on car aerials! But the lions certainly stole the show and made our day a little more memorable when one decided to come over and have a nibble on the door handle!
