The Pickle has had a busy few weeks putting the YBIKE Pewi to the test!
He was very excited when we opened the box and he
wanted to help put all the pieces together.Although
he kept running off with the important bits (including the instructions) The
Pewi was thankfully very easy to assemble and took no more than half an
hour.I imagine without a little
‘helper’ it would take even less time to assemble.
Once I’d put it together I checked how sturdy it was and was
surprised I could put so much pressure on the handlebars (or the ‘steering
wheel’ as The Pickle calls it) without it tipping forwards.The Pickle did used to have a little plastic
ride-on and managed to tip it over and go head first over the front, so I was
cautious of this.However, the way The
Pewi is built with the wide legs at the front makes it much stronger than some of the other
ride-ons I’ve seen.
The Pickle waited impatiently until I’d done my safety
checks, hopped on and promptly started whizzing from one end of the room to the
other (and did so for the majority of the afternoon!)He knew exactly what to do and got the hang
of it straight away.I think it would
have taken longer to get used to if he was a bit younger or hadn’t used a
ride-on before, but I don’t think it will be too long before he’s ready for the
next YBike and that’s when he’ll really start to learn how to balance and
control a ‘real’ bike.I think The Pewi
is a great lead up to this, helping little ones with their coordination.
The great thing about the Pewi is that it can be used from
approx. 9 months as a baby walker, then as a ride-on when the child is ready
(from around 12 months).It can also be
used both indoors and outdoors. The Pickle loves taking it to the park and riding back and forth underneath the playground bridge!
The
swivel wheels rotate 360 degrees so the bike is very maneuverable and can turn
all the way around in very small spaces.We have laminate flooring in our living room with a rug in the centre
and the Pewi moves onto the rug fairly easily due to the large rubber wheels
(we found with previous ride-ons they came to an abrupt halt at the edge of the
rug).Also, the rubber wheels mean the
bike is very quiet and doesn’t scratch the floor!
Overall, I'm very impressed with the Pewi and The Pickle is really enjoying it. He also loves how the handlebars form a smiley face and has lots of fun playing peek-a-boo through the holes!
